Academics

Challenge is waiting for you.
Wake Forest is proud of our willingness to interrogate limits, to push ourselves toward discovery.
The Engaged Liberal Arts

We refer to our educational method as the Engaged Liberal Arts. It is a highly inclusive, interactive and innovative model that asks a lot and delivers even more.
Students do more than receive information; they collaborate and share. Likewise, faculty members are not moored to a lectern or an office; they ask their students for input, they cross lines of department and academic discipline, and they seek out ways to make everything more interesting and more relevant.

Majors and Minors
Wake Forest prides itself on its reputation for outstanding academics. A student may choose to pursue study in one or more of its 49 academic majors and a wide variety of minors. Following the liberal-arts ideal, we encourage and expect each student to take courses in a host of areas that are available to them.
However, the education our students receive will extend well beyond these choices.
New thinking, the old-fashioned way.
Wake Forest is historically known for its excellence in humanities and social sciences, and that respect remains. But tradition doesn’t prevent progress. Inspired by the needs of a changing world, Wake Forest has become a leader in science, technology and math.
Engineering
Our engineering program is dedicated to studying solutions for some of the world’s most pressing problems. It is also far more diverse than its peers. Women account for 40% of our engineering graduates. The national average is around 25%.
Biomedical Sciences
The biochemistry and molecular biology program doesn’t just offer research; it requires it. And these opportunities are abundant in an environment that relishes challenges.
Mathematics and Statistics
In line with projections that math-related careers will be among the fastest growing in the next decade, Wake Forest has added majors, minors and concentrations in recent years that prioritize solving real-world problems.

Deac Success Stories
Here at Wake Forest, you will find a place where you may be curious about the world. Our students find enriching academic opportunities that offer them real-world experiences in research fields, literature, and public service.
Featured Deac: Emily Hellwig
“Instead of interrupting, work on attracting.” This is just one of many lessons Emily Hellwig learned while developing marketing campaigns for Krispy Kreme donuts and Cheerwine cola in her public-relations course.
